BUSM Alumni News
Greetings,

As we head into spring in New England, we share with you several meaningful BUSM that brought our community together for collective self-reflection, networking and learning.

We celebrated Rebecca Lee Crumpler (MED 1864), the nation’s first Black woman to earn an MD. The weeklong virtual symposia in her name offered inspiring content from prominent alumni, students, leaders and community members. We encourage you to view or review any of the sessions here.

The Creative Arts Society sponsored the 31st annual Art Days, choosing Antiracism as the theme this year. Through various art forms this group has demonstrated their resolve to oppose racial hatred, bias and the oppression of marginalized groups while promoting allyship, continued education and discourse.

Alumni from all over the country joined BUSM faculty and medical students for our first ever virtual “Wine Down After Rounds.” Social connections were mixed in with academic programming with alumni and faculty representing greater than 20 medical specialties hosting students in small groups, sharing and answering questions about career pathways. An alum noted being pleasantly surprised at “how good a Zoom gathering like this could work so well!” The event reached students across class years. Wine Down After Rounds “allowed me to talk to people in different fields at a time when COVID prevents interactions.” Thank you to the alumni and faculty who generously gave of their time.

Continuing the theme of networking, mentoring, and connecting our Alumni Spotlight received the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) Francis D. Moore Excellence in Mentorship award and in a recent article in Transplantation, gives thanks to her own mentor, Karen Antman, MD.

Looking ahead, we are excited for Match Day on Friday, March 19! The celebration will be virtual and students will share their excitement via livestream. If you wish to share any Words of Encouragement or pearls of advice with the Class of 2021, please submit them here. We are creating an electronic album with photos and your text and to share it with them the class of 2021 as the anticipation builds.

Thank you for being a part of this community.

Wishing you the best,
