BUSM Alumni News

Greetings,

We hope the longer summer days allow time for you to rest and be with friends and loved ones. This summer, second year medical students Sara Khattab and Sean Wang Pong Chan spent some time outside the student residence tending vegetable and herb gardens. On campus, we look forward to welcoming the BUSM class of 2025 next month. The annual White Coat Ceremony will be held on August 2nd, an important rite of passage for students entering medicine. We welcome your words of encouragement for the incoming class. If interested, please submit your reflections here. We will post your reflections in an online flipbook similar to this book created for the class of 2024. This year we added a new feature allowing you to upload a 90-second video in addition or instead of a photo. I’m sure the students would enjoy hearing your reflections on the beginning of your medicine journey whether four or 40 years ago.

Our Alumni Spotlight this month is, Venkata Satyam, MD, (MED'17). Working with other students, he founded The Beat, which was the school’s first student-led journal for opinion pieces. “We had all felt like our experiences and time at BUSM gave us a unique insight into modern healthcare, particularly for the underserved, and at the time there was no easy outlet for us to communicate our thoughts to the greater world outside of BUSM.”

This month, we celebrate the lives of two outstanding alumni. Drs. Jackson and Rankin exemplify the excellence, inventiveness, curiosity, generosity and professionalism of our fellow grads.

The Alumni Association takes tremendous pride in our BUSM graduates and we want to help you and the rest of our alumni remain connected. Please take a look at class notes from your colleagues, and if you have not done so already, we ask that you please fill out the Alumni Engagement Survey. Thank you to those who have already done so and we look forward to sharing the data collected with you later in the year.

Lastly, we are excited to celebrate Alumni Weekend this October, 2021. We plan to host an on-campus barbecue on Talbot Green for you and your family as well as a virtual Dean’s Town Meeting. Be on the lookout for emails regarding registration.

Wishing you the best,
