About
Global Days of Service is a global volunteer event that takes place April 1–30 each year. Throughout the month, BU alumni sign up for service projects hosted by nonprofits and community organizations around the world. At the end of the month, volunteers' projects and hours are tallied to measure BU's global impact.
History and legacy
BU Day of Service was founded by the Community Service Center as an opportunity for students to volunteer with organizations across the city of Boston. In 2010, the BU Alumni Association joined forces with the CSC, inviting alumni to participate in Global Days of Service across the world. GDS builds on a long legacy of service at BU.

In fact, many alumni who participate in Global Days of Service had formative experiences as BU students in the First-Year Student Outreach Project (FYSOP), Alternative Spring Breaks, or other CSC projects. Like these programs, Global Days of Service is an opportunity for alumni to volunteer in their communities while meeting local alumni who share their values and interests.
Integral to teaching and research
Global Days of Service also extends a culture of service that's embedded in BU's teaching and research throughout the University's 17 schools and colleges. Here are just a few examples:
